Dying Scene

Deployed PHP

The result

A live music-publication website organized around news, original content, bands, labels, reviews, and releases.

The challenge

Give a music publication reusable editorial structures that support frequent publishing and deeper discovery.

What shipped

A custom editorial theme connects publication content through band and label indexes, contributor features, reviews, and release archives.

  • Custom Duffion WordPress theme
  • Band and label indexes
  • Release archives and upcoming-release blocks
  • Contributor, review, and exclusive-content blocks

The Dying Scene website supports frequent music publishing and deeper discovery through a custom WordPress theme. The documented build remains in use for news, bands, labels, reviews and releases.

A publication with more than a news feed

Dying Scene needed a site that could support ongoing music journalism while helping readers explore the bands, labels, reviews, and releases behind the latest headlines. The delivered custom theme gives those subjects their own structures instead of making every piece of content depend on the same chronological feed.

Reusable editorial building blocks

I built dedicated band and label indexes, release archives, and blocks for upcoming releases, reviews, exclusive content, and contributors. Editors can assemble those components into the publication’s pages while keeping each type of information recognizable to the reader.

That structure connects daily publishing with the deeper material that remains useful after an article leaves the homepage. A band index and a release archive solve different browsing needs, even though both belong to the same editorial platform.

A delivered site still in use

Dying Scene continues to publish on this Duffion build. The current screenshot shows the real site, and its footer retains the Duffion credit. This is an ongoing example of a custom WordPress implementation supporting a publication’s own editorial identity.

What this project clarifies

A chronological feed helps readers find recent work, while indexes and release archives keep older material discoverable. The implementation gives both browsing patterns a defined place in the publication.
