# TypeScript - Duffion Stack

**Role:** Navigator · typed courses
**Status:** On

TypeScript is the navigator, it plots the course and keeps every system on the same chart. The compiler is the first line of defense: errors that would otherwise surface on a customer's phone at 2am surface on your screen at 10am, in the dev loop, where they're cheap.
## Why types earn their place
At the scale of a 189-endpoint codebase, type safety is what makes refactors safe. A single shared contract of types between server and client means a renamed field in one endpoint fails the whole build, not the first user who hit it in production. Upstream API drift (Shopify, Stripe, Twilio) is caught at build time, before it ships.
Modern TypeScript is also a design tool, not just a linter. Conditional and mapped types, template literal types, and discriminated unions let you encode business rules, "a **%2$s** order cannot carry a **%2$s**", as compile errors, so the rules live in one place and can't be quietly violated.
## What I ship

- Typed API clients shared between the server and the UI

- Type-level business-rule encoding for order and payment state

- Compile-time contracts across multiple external APIs in one repo

See the **%2$s** and **%2$s** contracts below for the typed builds this runs on.
