# MongoDB - Duffion Stack

**Role:** Hold · data & bounties
**Status:** On

MongoDB is the hold, where the structured cargo lives: bounties, agency state, event logs. When the data shape keeps evolving (a bounty's metadata changes mid-sprint), the database bends instead of forcing a schema migration at 2am.
## Why a document store here
In the agency-OS build, MongoDB is deliberately the **%2$s** tier alongside a vector tier (ChromaDB) and a model tier (Ollama). The architecture choice is the point: a document store for records that need flexible, embedded shape; a vector store for retrieval; and the two stay in sync through application logic, not joins.
Embedding a bounty with its milestones, tags, and assignees means a full record reads in one round trip, a small agency OS's API layer doesn't pay the JOIN tax. Tiers stay cleanly separated, so one tier going down doesn't take the others with it.
## What I ship

- Flexible document schemas that iterate with the business rules

- Aggregation pipelines in place of an ORM for state transitions

- Multi-tier data architecture (document + vector + model) kept in sync by app logic

This runs under the **%2$s**, see the contract below.
