The challenge

Create a modern platform for esports publishing, tournament experiences, and community accounts while carrying the brand’s history forward.

Work in progress

The rebuild uses a TypeScript/Next.js monorepo with MongoDB, shared domain packages, data collectors, and a separate tournament engine. Development is ongoing; the new platform has not launched.

  • Next.js and TypeScript platform development
  • MongoDB models and shared domain types
  • Esports news and tournament page architecture
  • Separate tournament-engine package
  • Accounts and payment-workflow development
  • Source-aware event-data collection

The IMBA.TV platform rebuild is in progress, with a launch target around mid-2027. Its news, competition and account features form a new software project rather than a continuation of the historical broadcast system.

A new platform for an established esports identity

The IMBA.TV rebuild is in progress, with a planned launch around mid-2027. It is a new software chapter for an established broadcasting and tournament brand, separate from the historical StarCraft II work documented elsewhere in this portfolio.

News, community, and competition

The implementation is organized as a TypeScript monorepo with a Next.js web application, MongoDB data layer, shared domain types, data collectors, and a separate tournament-engine package. News, tournament pages, accounts, and payment-related workflows are part of the platform’s development scope.

Keeping tournament logic in a distinct package separates competition rules from the page layer. The data-collection work also has its own source and provenance responsibilities, rather than treating external event information as untracked page content.

Development status

The rebuild is not being presented as a launched platform. Authentication, payments, data collection, and the public experience still belong to the ongoing development and qualification work. Mid-2027 is the current target, not a completed delivery date.

The earlier broadcasting record is documented in the StarCraft II case study. Related engineering: TypeScript applications and MongoDB data modeling.

What this project clarifies

The tournament engine, publishing interface and data collectors have separate responsibilities. Their development status should be reviewed together before describing the overall platform as ready to launch.
